Sustainability:
Leading the way to a sustainable built environment

Carbon emissions in the 21st Century

40% of carbon emissions come from the built environment, up to 20% from commercial buildings alone. Increasingly, real estate investors, owners and occupiers around the world are facing shareholder, regulatory, investor and other stakeholders pressure to do something positive about this by embedding sustainability into their overall business strategy.

The International Sustainability Alliance

The ISA is a response to these demands and John is Secretary General of this global not-for-profit organisation (www.internationalsustainabilityalliance.org). Its members are leading corporate occupiers, property investors, property managers and environmental consultancies dedicated to achieving a more sustainable built environment through better measurement and understanding of sustainable performance of buildings.

The International Sustainability Alliance captures buildings environmental data;

  • To support asset management decisions and CSR reporting
  • To meet regulatory reporting requirements
  • To facilitate improved sustainability performance through the use of appropriate KPIs
  • To create common industry metrics
  • To develop benchmarks across industry and national boundaries for peer comparison
  • To provide a platform for access to certification standards and
  • To facilitate research and thought leadership
